Inspiration

Get fit in Istanbul

Traveling is about seeing new sites, meeting people from different cultures and trying new experiences.   Your new experiences may include eating snails and intestines for the first time.  However, there are also things you can do while traveling that benefit your body and soul (not to imply that snails and intestines may not be the best for your body)

Istanbul is the ideal place to try new fitness activities. Below is an Istanbul guide to the Pilates, gyrotonics and yoga.

Pilates has been around for quite a while in Turkey.  The first Pilates studio was opened by Judy Ataman in 1999 at Planet Health Club in Kuruçeşme. Now, there are almost as many Pilates studios as there are simit vendors! Pilates has become increasingly popular and it is a great way to tone your body and fix postural problems. Pilates is ideal for people who want to learn how their body works. A good Pilates teacher will teach their client all about anatomically correct movement and will explain any kind of postural problems the client may have and not be aware of.

Gyrotonics is another “new” fitness fad although it started almost 25 years ago. It is new in Turkey and was introduced it to Istanbulites 8 years ago. It is slowly catching on, and will be all the rage soon.  It is a series of 3 dimensional movements with the goal of liberating the spine and thereby creating a more functional and responsive body. Gyrotonic is for the kind of person who likes to move organically and who learns through doing rather than “being taught”. It is also great for anyone with scoliosis or those of you who have suffered from a slipped disc in the past.

Yoga isn’t new and yet there are so many different kinds of yoga being taught that it seems like there is always something new and different to try. Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Bikram Yoga and Anusara Yoga are just some alternatives. If you are a person who likes to focus on the spiritual side of things, Yoga is the way to go. Just like with Pilates, there are almost as many yoga studios as there are types of Yoga. Try them all and see which one suits you the best.

Increase what you think of as Istanbul tourism, and expand your horizon with one (or all) of these fitness options on your next vacation.

Oracle Paul The Octopus Passes Away

Many of you may have known Paul the octopus due to his renowned skills of  predicting the outcomes of football matches in the South Africa World cup.Originally born in England he was labeled a traitor by English football fans when he predicted the defeat of England at the hands of Germany in the football World cup.
Up until then, Paul had correctly predicted all of Germany's results, including a loss against Serbia in the group stages.
He died on 26th November,2010.The aquarium authorities and many of his fans were devastated by his death.

“Paul amazed the world by correctly prediciting the winners of all Germany’s World Cup clashes, and then of the final,” said Sea Life manager Stefan Porwoll.
“His success made him almost a bigger story than the World Cup itself. We had all naturally grown very fond of him and he will be sorely missed,” said Porwoll.

Paul beat the odds during the World Cup by correctly forecasting all eight games he was asked to predict, including Spain’s 1-0 win over the Netherlands in the final. The fans need not despair too much at his death, though, as the aquarium has already been grooming a successor, to be named Paul like his mentor. Paul’s body is now in cold storage while the aquarium decides “how best to mark his passing”.

“We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine,” said Porwoll.
“While this may seem a curious thing to do for a sea creature, Paul achieved such popularity during his short life that it may be deemed the most appropriate course of action.”

The Fight Against Dengue !

Dengue Fever is running rampant in most countries especially in Pakistan. The affected toll is around 5000 now with 21 deaths and in the coming days it might become worse.Surfing on the web i found out a really simple cure for it.
Many of you may not believe it but it is PAPAYA LEAVES.
Yep ! simple as that and by the looks of it,it really does work according to some accounts.
The idea is to get two papaya leaves and squeeze them with a filter cloth.Do NOT boil or treat them with hot water or they will loose strength. One leave provides about one table spoon of Papaya juice and two table spoons should be taken for each serving everyday.
The problem how ever remains to find Dengue leaves !
It is a preventative measure and a herbal cure.I do not lay claim that it is a guaranteed remedy but it surely must be tried.

Diet Tips for Dengue Fever

Orange juice is a great source of vitamin C and Vitamin C fights against fevers and can cure running noses and increased mucus production in the mucus glands.
Porridge and baked toasts (not fried) can be had for allaying hungers in the course of the day. Biscuits with tea can be had. The tea must be herbal, with tulsi, ginger, cardamom and other such fever-reducing herbs in it.

The Following Measures Should Be Taken To Combat DENGUE.
  • Clearing the neighborhood of ponds and pits.
  • Covering all water containers and any objects that can trap rain water (tires, pots, etc.). Invert any used buckets and containers that can trap water, and ensure roof gutters are not clogged.
  • Filling in or draining areas of stagnant water except for swimming pools and ornamental pools if they are aerated by a pump or fountain or similar.
  • Use of larvicides or mosquito larvae-eating fish in waters that cannot be drained.
  • In endemic mosquito areas, insist owners, employers and landlords supply screens on doors and windows and mosquito nets on beds.
  • Changing water in flower pots once a week and washing them thoroughly. Do not let plants stand in trays containing water. Scrub trays weekly to get rid of any mosquito eggs.
  • Fill tree holes with sand or cement and plug the tops of bamboo fences.
  • Remove and destroy old tires.
  • Installing mosquito screens on doors and windows and mosquito nets on beds.
  • Avoid the uncontrolled use of residual and space insecticides, and the use of toxic materials. Do not allow indiscriminate use of insecticides unless possible risks of their use are clearly understood. Know what you are doing and / or what chemical is being used.
  • Use mosquito repellent lotions, creams or liquids.
  • Wear long sleeve clothes and keep house doors shut to avoid mosquitoes coming in.
  • Do not go outside at sunrise or sun down as Dengue mosquitoes are active at these times.
